Tactile Switches with Low-Profile Sculpted Key-caps
Based on the same model of keyboard as my very first modded keyboard, in this build I took things a couple of steps further towards putting together a premium-sounding keyboard.
As with my first build the original switches were de-soldered however in this case they were replaced with lubed tactile switches with a slightly snappier feel. Box switches with a snappier feel were installed on all the modifier and function keys whereas a slightly more subtle tactile switch was installed for all other keys. The mixed tactile switches teamed up with the low-profile MDA Profile key-caps along with modified and re-lubed stabilizers made for an extremely pleasant typing experience.
The manufacturer of the keys insists on calling them an MDA profile key-cap set although the key height is significantly lower. In a way these unique keys are a cross between the Cherry and MDA profiles, offering low key-cap heights and a slightly rounded yet large contact area in a sculpted profile. These specific key-caps are creme, light blue and dark-blue key-caps, with English and Japanese lettering. I find them simply gorgeous and they make this keyboard quite unique.
On another “note” (pun intended), the rigidity and heft of the modified casing with its unique sound-signature also contributes heavily towards a keyboard that not only looks and feels great but one that is also a pleasure to listen to.
