Built “Tonka-tough” with an MT3 set
Like many, I always had a thing for the old IBM keyboards with their robust structure and tall key-caps and I guess that’s what drove me to the concept that resulted in this keyboard’s existence. It had to have a bulky yet futuristic design, be solid, have tall retro-looking key-caps without being excessively loud.
As tough as the case was for this build, it definitely needed some modding to get the sound right and to keep those stabilizers from rattling, but the end-result is simply amazing. The photos can’t really do it justice. The keyboard is solid, heavy and feels tough-as-nails just like keyboards of old. It has a lovely rubberized texture and a really tight and deep sound signature. In addition to all of that, although the key-caps went against one of the main principles for my mods (keeping the keyboards affordable), the MT3 profile with it’s sculpted keys provides one of – if not the best – typing experiences anywhere.
With regards to looks, what can I say? Just look at those keys. Aren’t they simply gorgeous with that Olivetti-inspired blue lettering?
