Colorful and Build to last

One of the most important characteristics of any keyboard is it’s build quality and I have to say it’s pretty apparent here thanks to a full-metal construction. The case is metal as is the plate, making this keyboard incredibly rigid and sturdy – and maybe a little heavy too, but that’s a good thing!

It also resulted in a bit of a “ping” which was easily resolved with some light customization of the case and PCB (the PCB is the circuit board on which the switches are placed) resulting in a much deeper and satisfying sound signature. This deep sounding metal case mated to silent tactile switches (which in this case aren’t actually completely silent) makes for an amazing sound-experience. Each key-press results in a quiet, yet deep “thock” – ideal for any keyboard-lover that has to work in a shared workspace.

On a practical front, having mostly worked worked on full-sized keyboards, working on these smaller boards is always an interesting experience. I always love it. It’s amazing how apart from the missing number pad, thanks to some software ingenuity, you never really miss out on any keys even with this reduced size. Cursors and Function Keys are all there and really easy to get accustomed to even if they don’t take up the space on the keyboard’s layout. I guess that if it weren’t for that, small keyboards would be nowhere as popular as they are these days.

Now the “package”” could never be complete without key-caps to set it aside from other boards so it was time to try mashing a few colors together and see how it comes out – in a not too different manner to that seen on basic Lego sets for youngsters. Personally, I love it.
